Norm is a senior litigation partner with Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP's Toronto office. Norm has a very broad-ranging commercial litigation and advocacy practice in the areas of class action defense, securities, auditor’s negligence, CCAA, banking and insolvency, professional negligence, high-end disability income claims, insurance defense, shareholders’ disputes, Coroners’ inquests and human rights. Norm has extensive trial and appellate experience in the civil courts and before numerous regulatory and administrative tribunals throughout the province of Ontario, such as the Ontario Securities Commission, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission, the Workers Compensation Appeal Tribunal and the Ontario Pension Board and related mediation and arbitration experience. Norm has appeared as counsel before the courts in Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and before The Supreme Court of Canada. Norm also does a significant amount of pro bono work including acting as duty counsel before The Law Society of Upper Canada. Norm is a graduate of Concordia University (B.Comm., with dist., 1983) and Queen's Law School (1986) and was called to the Ontario bar in 1988. He and his wife, Barb, live in Unionville, Ontario and have five children. Norm moonlights playing electric guitar in three blues-rock bands in Toronto and Montreal (Departure Lounge, Exiled On The Main and Oui B. Jamon) which play fund raising concerts for charitable organizations such as the March of Dimes (Rock For Dimes and Rock For Kids) and CANFAR (AIDSbeat).
