Michal Fairburn is General Counsel with the Crown Law Office-Criminal, Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario. She completed her undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Toronto and joined the Criminal Law Division of the Ministry of the Attorney General following her call to the Bar in 1992.  Ms. Fairburn practises in the area of criminal law and appears at all levels of court, but primarily in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada.

Ms. Fairburn is an active participant in legal education. Since 2003, she has been on the faculty of the Federation of Law Societies’ National Criminal Law Program as well as the Public Prosecution Service of Canada’s School for Prosecutors and Advanced School for Prosecutors. She has also been co-chair of the Ontario Crown Attorneys’ Association Wiretap course since 2002. Ms. Fairburn is a frequent lecturer for many organizations, including the National Judicial Institute, Ontario Bar Association, Osgoode Professional Development, police services throughout Canada, and at law schools. In 2007, she taught at the Joint Appellate Advocacy Training Program, International Criminal Court in The Hague. 

Ms. Fairburn is an advocacy advisor for the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute, sits on the Federal-Provincial Wiretap Experts Committee (in her capacity as the wiretap coordinator for the Province of Ontario), and sits on the Justice and Media Liaison Committee in Ontario.
