Michael Penman was called to the bar of Ontario in 1975 and is now a senior partner in the Toronto firm of Blaney McMurtry LLP. He is a member of the firm's Executive Committee and formerly led its Commercial Litigation Group. He is also responsible for the firm's relationship with TAGLaw, a network of leading law firms across North America and throughout the world.
Michael's civil litigation practice is based in the areas of corporate/commercial, intellectual property, wrongful dismissal, competition and tax law. He also acts for sports and entertainment clients and has represented a number of professional and amateur sports organizations and athletes.
He has appeared at all levels of the Ontario and Federal courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also appeared, by Special Call, in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia and twice in U.S. Federal District Court.
Michael acts as general counsel for, and is a director of, both Nintendo of Canada Ltd. and Ferring (Pharmaceuticals) Inc. He is general counsel for, and a director and officer of, the Greater Toronto Hockey League. He is also a director of the Ontario Hockey Federation and a special advisor to the Board of Hockey Canada.
