Chown has a Bachelor's of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering
from Queen's University (May, 1985). He worked for three years as an
Engineer with Ontario Hydro at the Bruce Nuclear Power Station. He
qualified as a licenced Professional Engineer in 1988, before returning
to school to study law. Roger graduated in law from the University of
Windsor in May, 1991, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in February,
1993. At the University of Windsor Mr. Chown received several awards,
including the Igor Kaplan Memorial Award for "scholarship, commitment
and integrity". Since
his call to the bar, Roger has practiced exclusively in the field of
insurance related litigation, including personal injury, automobile,
occupiers liability, fire, property and casualty, and disability
claims. A significant part of his practice relates to advancing
subrogated claims on behalf of insurers. Roger
is a member of Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Ontario Bar Association,
The Advocate's Society, Professional Engineers Ontario and the Ontario
Society of Engineers. He is on the executive of the Georgian Bay Chapter
of the Insurance Institute of Ontario. He is married with two children
who are active in community and school sports, especially hockey, and
Roger has volunteered coach and assistant coach for hockey and soccer
for many years. Roger
is a partner at the firm the firm Carroll Heyd Chown in Barrie,
Ontario. This firm restricts its practice to civil litigation, almost
exclusively in insurance related matters. |
