REGULAR Member
Membership shall be confined to barristers & solicitors in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada who have been called to the Bar in Ontario for at least five years prior to admission to membership and whose principal occupation (representing at least 75% of the total time devoted to the practice of law) is advocacy in civil disputes, criminal proceedings, public law matters or administrative processes. The Board of Directors may, in its discretion, credit a candidate for membership in this category with up to three years membership in the Law Society of another province of Canada.
Regular – Toronto: $375.00 + $18.75 (GST) = $393.75
Regular - Outside of Toronto: $325.00 + $16.25 (GST) = $341.25
INTERMEDIATE Members
Membership shall be confined to barristers & solicitors in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada who have not been called to the Bar in Ontario for more than five years and who express the intention of practising advocacy as their principal occupation.
$275.00 + $13.75 (GST) = $288.75
GOVERNMENT Members
Membership shall be confined to barristers & solicitors in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada who have been called to the Bar in Ontario for at least five years prior to admission to membership and whose principal occupation (representing at least 75% of the total time devoted to the practice of law) in the employ of the Department of Justice, the Ministry of the Attorney General, or other government
departments or agencies, is advocacy in civil disputes, criminal proceedings, public law matters or administrative processes. The Board of Directors may, in its discretion, credit a candidate for membership in the Law Society of another province of Canada.
$250.00 (GST Exempt) = $250.00
COUNSEL Members
Membership shall be confined to barristers & solicitors in good standing of the Law
Society of Upper Canada who have been called to the Bar in Ontario for at least five years prior to admission to membership and whose principal occupation is devoted to counsel or policy work in the civil, criminal or administrative justice systems and who demonstrate a keen interest in advocacy consistent with the objects of the Society. Directors may, in their discretion, credit a candidate for membership in the Law Society of another province of Canada.
$375.00 + $18.75 (GST) = $393.75
JUDICIAL Members
Membership shall be confined to justices of the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal
Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Justice and to masters of the Superior Court of Justice and prothonotaries of the Federal Court.
$125.00 + $6.25 (GST) = $131.25
QUASI-JUDICIAL Members
Membership shall be confined to barristers & solicitors who are full-time arbitrators, full-time mediators or full-time members of administrative tribunals before which advocacy is practised.
$200.00 + $10.00 (GST) = $210.00
ASSOCIATE Members
Membership may be conferred from time to time by resolution of the Board of
Directors of the Society upon barristers & solicitors in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada who are in the employ of not-for-profit organizations, charities, legal clinics, legal associations or advocacy groups, and upon professors of law, law teachers or other persons who by their writings or work demonstrate a keen interest
in advocacy consistent with the objects of the Society. Membership may also be extended to existing members of the Society who, by reason of illness, disability, family responsibility, election to political office, continuation of education, or other reason, cease, for a period not exceeding five years, the practice of advocacy.

RETIRED Members
Membership shall be confined to members of The Advocates’ Society in any category
of membership who elect to retire or semi-retire from the practice of advocacy or from the Bench and who wish to maintain their association with the Society.
$50.00 + $2.50 (GST) = $52.50
AFFILIATE Members
Membership shall be confined to barristers & solicitors who are members in good
standing of a Law Society in a province or territory of Canada other than Ontario or a Law Society or equivalent regulating organization in another country who, but for the fact that they are not members of the Law Society of Upper Canada, would qualify for membership as Regular - Toronto, Regular - Outside of Toronto, Government,
Intermediate, Quasi-Judicial or Counsel members, or to individuals who are judges of a court analogous to those described in the Judicial category.
