With fewer opportunities for trial experience, can you afford not to send your lawyers to Canada's premier two day civil trial skills program?

About the Program

This extraordinary, two day trial skills program held each February in Calgary provides intensive, comprehensive and participatory education to lawyers new to or out of practice in the courtroom. Our faculty of leading Alberta advocates utilizes proven methods of instruction for a full learning experience. Faculty demonstrations expose you to different advocacy approaches and ideas in solving common trial problems. To reinforce skill development, major emphasis is placed on learning-by-doing. For two days you will be "on your feet" arguing, questioning and developing your skills in realistic trial work. From openings to closings, in examination-in-chief and cross-examination, and by dealing with evidentiary issues, you will improve your skills under the scrutiny of noteworthy trial lawyers. At every step, faculty members will provide individual feedback for improving your performance in the future.

The workshop is taught in small groups in a supportive atmosphere so that even participants who doubt their ability to do trial work feel comfortable. Although a civil case file is the basis of instruction, the emphasis is on trial techniques rather than substantive law. You will receive workshop materials, including simulation exercises, seven to ten days before the program so that you may prepare. Pre-workshop preparation ensures that you maximize the learning experience for yourself and for other participants. Whether you are in a private law firm, government agency, or corporate legal department, join us this February and become a better litigator.
