About Katrina Dunn

Katrina DunnKatrina Dunn is an award-winning professional director, respected producer, and inspiring teacher who has brought her considerable skill set to creation of the principles and techniques of Touchstone Training. For over a decade she has been Artistic Director of Touchstone Theatre in Vancouver BC, one of the region’s most cherished cultural organizations. She received her professional theatre training at Simon Fraser University and the National Theatre School of Canada. As a freelance director she has worked for numerous Performing Arts organizations, and has been nominated six times for Jessie Awards in Outstanding Direction, winning twice for her work on plays by renowned Canadian playwrights Judith Thompson and Michael Healey. The course has helped countless legal professionals develop and improve their advocacy and presentation skills. Katrina now teaches “The Powerful Performance” across Canada and is working on a book to complement the course. She is presently completing a Masters Degree in Applied Theatre at the University of British Columbia.

About the Program

Dramatically improve your performance as a lawyer by using the skills and techniques of an actor. This program is not about how to “act” in the courtroom – judges, jurors, and opposing counsel will not find this plausible. Instead, you will learn simple, concrete techniques that will energize your performance at trial, in mediation, in arbitration, and in any legal argument. Whether you are looking to improve your self-confidence or enhance your skill set, this hands-on workshop will give each participant ample opportunity to present and receive one-on-one feedback in a supportive environment. Learn how acting can take your presentation from plain to powerful, and turn your ideas, research, and facts into a live three-dimensional event.

Topics Include

  • Understanding communications: non-verbal signals and body language
  • Techniques for expanding vocal range, control, flexibility, and stamina
  • How to engage the audience (the judge, the jury, and opposing counsel)
  • Overcoming fear and stage fright
  • Identifying and using emotional subtext
  • Creating dynamic and compelling stories
  • The power of language: creating suspense, controlling attention
  • Using action words to rouse listeners
  • Techniques for breathing, relaxation, and concentration
  • PLUS how to enhance the delivery of one of your existing opening or closing statements

Who Should Attend

All lawyers will benefit from Katrina Dunn’s insight into effective, powerful performance. This course will teach new and experienced advocates alike how to be more natural, believable, assertive, and self-possessed.
