Janice has acted as counsel in a broad range of civil, regulatory and cross-border litigation, including complex corporate commercial securities cases such as Portus, Knowledge House, Hollinger, Bre-X, Asbestos, YBM, Thomson Kernaghan and Brian Costello. Janice routinely represents clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings, as well as registration hearings.

She has extensive experience dealing with securities regulators, in particular the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), and Self Regulatory Organizations (SROs), including the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and the Mutual Fund Dealers Association (MFDA). In addition to representing individual and institutional clients in regulatory and enforcement proceedings, Janice has also acted for the OSC in a major investigation of a large, high-profile public company. She has also been retained by IIROC to provide legal advice.

Janice has represented a diverse range of clients in numerous other types of corporate commercial and administrative law cases including, for example: representing professionals on allegations of misconduct; representing a lead prosecutor in a law society investigation; representing a major financial institution in an oppression remedy application; representing a large public company during an investigation of fraud involving multiple civil lawsuits and regulatory proceedings. She has also advised clients in wrongful dismissal suits, insider trading allegations, contractual disputes, quasi-criminal matters, and directors’ and officers’ liability claims.

As well as having appeared before all levels of Court and securities regulators in Ontario, Janice has represented clients before a broad range of administrative tribunals including: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and The Public Accountants Council for the Province of Ontario, The Law Society of Upper Canada, The Law Society of Nova Scotia, The Nova Scotia Securities Commission, The College of Chiropractors and other administrative and quasi-judicial bodies.

Early on in her career, Janice worked for two years as Senior Policy Advisor to a federal Minister. During this time, Janice advised the Minister on a broad range of complex, sophisticated files. Her responsibilities included: advising the Minister in respect of several key pieces of legislation; working with other ministers’ offices on memoranda to cabinet; working with the Minister’s press secretary on high-profile media issues; and assisting the legislative assistant on House and Committee matters.

Janice has been selected by her peers and ranked as BV distinguished in Martindale-Hubbell. In January 2013, Janice was selected to become a member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Securities Proceedings Advisory Committee which provides comments and advice on policy and procedural initiatives relating to the Commission’s administrative tribunal proceedings.
