Alberta Regional Advisory Committee

Welcome to TAS Alberta!

"The Advocates' Society is a unique community of advocates across Canada who connect, learn, and give back. I first became involved with TAS many years ago in Ontario. From that time, and continuing to my recent involvement in Alberta programs, I have been impressed with the exceptional quality of the continuing legal education offered and the opportunity it provides for collegiality among advocates. TAS quite simply makes the profession better."
- The Honourable Clifton D. O'Brien, Q.C.

TAS is committed to the growth of our advocacy community in the province of Alberta. We could not do what we do without the incredible efforts of our Alberta Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) who are dedicated to serving Alberta litigators with advocacy and justice sector efforts, exceptional advocacy CLE and collegial events for the bench and bar.

Our Alberta reps sit on various TAS Committees, including the Board, the National Standing Committee, the Young Advocates' Standing Committee and 10+ Standing Committee, as well as various special task forces. We couldn't do it without you!

Signature Events and Programs
Members can enjoy savings and exclusive opportunities to learn and connect with the bench and bar at our signature events and programs. From casual pub nights to gala dinners, or intimate advocacy skills workshops to major symposia, all of our events and programs are created to strengthen our community of like-minded advocates.

Alberta Gala
Coming in April 2024, the Alberta Gala event will bring together advocates for an evening of collegiality with the bench and bar and feature a keynote from The Rt. Hon. Beverley McLachlin, PC, CC, CStJ, and the presentation of the Alberta Excellence in Mentoring Award. Learn more here.

Signature Advocacy CLE
TAS members always enjoy savings on our seminars and major symposia, including the Alberta Symposium, Women in Litigation, 2-Day Civil Trial Advocacy College, the Calgary Indigenous Court and a rotating curriculum of core advocacy skills programs where participants can learn-by-doing. We have successfully pivoted our core content to interactive, virtual platforms to keep our members' skills sharp and offering access to more programs from across Canada.

Information on TAS advocacy programs can be found here.

Practice Specific Programs & Events
Members can connect with the bench and bar in their practice area through our Practice Groups that offer Society members the chance to participate in practice-specific forums alongside their peers. Some practice specific programming recently held in Alberta include Construction Law for Litigators and a Criminal Bench & Bar event.

Learn more about Practice Groups here.

Young Advocates and 10+
Our Young Advocates' Alberta division is very active and brings junior members of the bar a variety of events to keep young advocates connected and building the confidence they need to grow their practice, including Trivia Challenge, Big Mingle for Students, Pub Nights, Fireside Chats with leaders of the profession and Diversity & Inclusion panels, including Allyship in Advocacy (available on TAS Member Resource Library – add link). Our 10+ members are also actively engaged in TAS activity in Alberta and have representatives on the RAC and various TAS committees.

Information on all TAS collegial events can be found here.
