British Columbia Regional Advisory Committee

Welcome to TAS British Columbia!

"Good advocacy is a continuous learning exercise. Participation in the programs of The Advocates’ Society provides the best opportunity for all lawyers wishing to enhance their written and oral advocacy skills. Membership enables practitioners to engage on a professional and collegial basis with members of the judiciary and the foremost advocates in Canada."
- The Honourable Marshall Rothstein C.C., Q.C., former Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada

TAS is committed to the growth of our advocacy community in the province of BC. We could not do what we do without the incredible efforts of our BC Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) who are dedicated to serving BC litigators with advocacy and justice sector efforts, exceptional advocacy CLE and collegial events for the bench and bar.

Our BC reps sit on various TAS Committees, including the Board, the National Standing Committee, the Young Advocates' Standing Committee and 10+ Standing Committee, as well as various special task forces. We couldn't do it without you!

Signature Events and Programs
Members can enjoy savings and exclusive opportunities to learn and connect with the bench and bar at our signature events and programs. From casual pub nights to gala dinners, or intimate advocacy skills workshops to major symposia, all of our events and programs are created to strengthen our community of like-minded advocates.

Vancouver Gala
Launched in February 2020, the inaugural Vancouver Gala for Advocates brought together over 200 advocates to enjoy an evening of collegiality with the bench and bar, and featured a keynote presentation from The Hon. Chief Justice Robert J. Bauman. Stay tuned for information on the 2022 Vancouver Gala.

The Joe Arvay Award
The award honours an advocate in British Columbia who has made a significant contribution to advancing a claim or an area of the law under challenging circumstances. The award will be presented at the Vancouver Gala. For more information on the award click here.

Signature Advocacy CLE
TAS members always enjoy savings on our programs and major symposia, including Women in Litigation, and learning-by-doing CLE programs on core advocacy skills content like Direct Examinations. We have successfully pivoted our core content to interactive, virtual platforms to keep our members' skills sharp and offering access to more programs from across Canada. Information on TAS advocacy programs can be found here.

Practice Specific Programs & Events
Members can connect with the bench and bar in their practice area through our Practice Groups that offer Society members the chance to participate in practice-specific forums alongside their peers. Learn more about Practice Groups here.

Young Advocates and 10+
Our Young Advocates' and 10+ Standing Committees run a variety of collegial events for advocates in their early to mid-years of practice, keeping our members connected with their peers. Some events on our BC calendar include Young Advocate socials, Student Big Mingles and Top Tips Panels, Fireside Chats with leaders of the profession and Business Development sessions for mid-career lawyers. Information on all TAS collegial events can be found here.
